Aleksander Komarov

Born in Belarus, Aleksander Komarov is an artist, curator, co-founder, and director of ABA Air Berlin Alexanderplatz, an artist research initiative that promotes collaborative approaches to art production and knowledge exchange through various forms of interaction with people from different fields and institutions. He is a graduate of the Glebov Art School in Minsk, Belarus, and the University of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland, as well as the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Komarov's art praxis engages with sociopolitical themes, particularly those related to identity, language, globalization, and the intersection of art with broader cultural, economic, and political forces. His work involves introspection, exploring how collaborative art praxis can both reflect and challenge prevailing social structures and norms of an artist and art institution. His solo works have been presented at internationally renowned art venues, including the The Sapporo International Art Festival (SIAF), Japan, Vancouver International Film Festival, the San Francisco Art Institute, the Moscow Biennial, the Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok, the MCA Chicago's exhibition "The Way of the Shovel," The Istanbul Biennial to mention some.

Komarov has been teaching contemporary art and interdisciplinary practices at NYU Berlin since 2018.
